Signs of a Faulty Roof Installation

Professional roofers have years of experience installing roofing systems. They have also undergone training to ensure that every roof complies with manufacturer specifications. Unfortunately, if you hired an underqualified or uncertified roofer, they could miss the mark and deliver poor workmanship.

Here are some signs that’ll tell you your roofing contractor did a poor job of installing your new roof.

Missing Shingles

If your asphalt shingles were properly installed, your roof shouldn’t be missing any of them — especially if your area has not experienced any severe weather conditions recently. Missing shingles are a clear sign of poor roof installation, so you should call your contractor and have them check your roofing and correct any errors that may have occurred during its installation.

Lack of Uniformity

If your shingles look misaligned or their colors are extremely different from each other, you should contact the roofer that installed them. Shingles should be properly measured and cut before installation. And while it’s OK to have varying shades of a particular shingle color for more depth and dimension, the colors shouldn’t be too different or contrasting.

Roof Leaks

Professional roofers must install flashing properly and use the correct nail for the shingles. Poor flashing installation makes your roof vulnerable to leaks, while improperly spaced roof nails make your roof susceptible to wind damage.

Improper Underlayment

Your roof’s underlayment provides a crucial layer of protection for your home. If this was not installed properly, leaks could easily penetrate your attic and living spaces. It could also lead to rot, mold growth and other roofing issues that will shorten the lifespan of your new roof.
